The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has dismissed claims that it has a preferred candidate for Kibra by-election which is yet to be declared.
The seat was left vacant following the death of Ken Okoth last month, who succumbed to cancer at Nairobi Hospital after months of treatment.
With the National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi yet to declare the seat vacant, ODM members have already started succession debate.
ODM Executive Director Oduor Ong'wen on Wednesday in Kisumu said the party hasn't settled on any candidate, adding that they have not asked for applications.
“It has been less than two weeks since we lost MP Ken Okoth,” he said.
“The next [step] is for National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi to declare the seat vacant. The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) will then roll out a programme for different parties to field candidates," he explained.
According to Mr Ong'wen, the party will know about those interested once they ask for application from interested candidates.
“At the moment we don’t know if there is anybody who has declared interest because we have not invited applications,” he said on Wednesday during the second Kisumu County ODM Delegates Convention.
A number of people are backing Imran Okoth, Mr Okoth's half brother while former aide to opposition leader Raila Odinga, Mr Eliud Owalo, is also said to be interested.
