There was a sudden relief among Mt Kenya politicians after President Uhuru Kenyatta's Friday declaration, Bahati Member of Parliament Kimani Ngunjiri has said.
The lawmaker says that the same began immediately after Uhuru allegedly dismissed promising partner ODM leader Raila Odinga anything, whom he said he has no political plans with.
Speaking on Tuesday, he said that there was a sudden warmth at the conference at Sagana, Nyeri county after Uhuru said that he never reached any political deal with Raila.
Ngunjiri added that also, a large section of the group is now happy after Uhuru assured them that he has not canceled his initial promise to endorse his deputy William Ruto in 2022.
"Wakati Uhuru alisema hajaahidi Raila chochote the ground warmed. Pia kusema hajasahau kurudisha mkono kwa Ruto (also saying that he has not forgotten to give back to Ruto), that has made us happy," he said.
He made the remarks in an interview on Taach FM on Tuesday morning.
However, he faulted the president for accusing members of parliament of abandoning him, pointing out that Uhuru was not sincere on the remark.
He said that as Mt Kenya lawmakers, they have never rejected any of the bills fronted for the benefit of the president, which acquits them from Uhuru's claims.
The MP opined that such a remark might incite citizens against their parliamentary representatives.
"Its not true that MPs are not helping him. We have not rejected any of his bills, he is inciting citizens against us (Kwa kusema eti wabunge hawamsaidii, hiyo ni uwongo. Sisi hatujaangusha bill yake yoyote, hiyo ni incitement kati yetu na Wanjiku)," he added.
In the function, Uhuru said that his union with Raila, after their March 2018 truce, was solely aimed at uniting the nation.
