The Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government has clarified reports that they have requested additional Sh1 billion from National Treasury for the Huduma Namba exercise.
In a press statement on Thursday signed by Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho, the ministry said the reports are fake and inconsistent with the normal logical implementation of the budget.
"We wish to clarify that while the government-approved Kshs 7 Bn for the whole huduma number exercise, only Kshs 5.5 Bn was released to the ministry by the treasury with the balance due in the subsequent financial year which is the current period." read part of the statement.
Kibicho in the statement noted that it was out of the balance that the ministry has requested treasury Sh1 billion in question.
He said the amount is meant to pay 50,000 clerks for the eight extra days they worked.
The statement also revealed that the funds will cater for the digitization of Civil Registration Services namely Birth Certificates which is a requirement to obtain Huduma Namba.
"For the avoidance of doubt, I wish to reinstate that no money has been requested or budgeting for the printing of Huduma Namba cards in the current financial year," the statement noted.
