The county government on Monday threatened to fire the 128 medics who have refused to resume duty despite an earlier similar threat, as they demand among others promotions.

Through County Health Executive Judith Atyang', Governor Anyang' Nyong'o's administration on Monday gave the medics a day to resume duties, or have their positions declared vacant.

She said the county has already prepared promotion letters for the doctors, wondering why they are yet to resume duty yet that is the main reason they are striking.

“We have given them only a day to pick the promotion letters, failure to which we will declare their positions redundant,” she said.

The doctors who are also demanding study leave and health insurance, have been on strike since the beginning of the month, which has left only nurses in public hospitals.

However, the medics have stood their ground, saying that until the county implements a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) signed between them, they won't return.

Patients in public hospitals are the worst hit as they have no doctors to attend to them.
