Western Stima player Benson Ochieng Omalla has been named Kenya Premier League player of the month.

The 17-year old student at Kisumu Day High School becomes the first student to bag KPL player of the month award. Omalla emerged the best after netting six goals in the month of December last year.

The young star revealed that he is eyeing KPL top scorer award, adding that he would like to be featured in the Kenya national team Harambee Stars.

“I would like to be KPL top scorer as my ambition is to play for the national team Harambee Stars,” said Omalla.

Omalla also revealed that he was featured in the under 20 national team which took part in the CECAFA tournament in Uganda last year, obtaining experience which has made him remain afloat.

The Sports Journalists Association of Kenya (SJAK) gifted the Stima striker a 49 inch LG television plus a trophy, a ceremony held at the school assembly on Wednesday during a tea break.

Kisumu Day High School principal Daniel Mwaturo also expressed his excitement lauding the LG East Africa team led by Marketing Executive Hiram Macharia for the motivation. But also encouraged Omalla to manage talent and academics which in order to have an easy time in future.

“We thank LG East Africa for this kind of motivation, it is important to manage talent and academics as they go hand in hand,” he said.
