Winnie Chepkoech, also known as Winnie Winnie, is the founder, and CEO of Passion for Giving Initiative; a project that has touched the lives of Eldoret street women, by providing them with sanitary towels.
In an exclusive interview, Chepkoech said she started the program after she discovered that street women were suffering due to lack of sanitary towels during their menstrual cycle.
“As one with a passion of giving, I saw what the women were going through due to their menstrual cycle, and there was no hygiene. That's when I came up with the idea of supplying them with sanitary towels to help them during this period,” Chepkoech said.
“We have been issuing them from June this year and we are planning to host another event on November 15, 2019, this month to give them another offer that will sustain them for 6 months. I will continue until their impact is felt,” she added.
According to Chepkoech, a part from menstrual problems, street women face other challenges that include; HIV/AIDS, rape, STIs among others.
She said she is happy her initiative is gaining momentum on the ground, adding that she won’t give up until street women live comfortably.
“My plans if God will give me life is to have rehabilitation centers where I will enroll the street women, rehabilitate them, thereafter open business for them to earn a living,” Chepkoech said.
A part from the street women menstrual program, Chepkoech was also involved in a jigger project in Budalangi, Soy constituency, where most of the residents were infected by jiggers.
“I tried to help the Budalangi residents but my efforts were derailed by financial constraints since the programs needed a lot of money. However, I am working to ensure it is successful,” she said.
“I will transform the people of Uasin Gishu, empower our mothers, and ensure unity of youths through my small means. I am not yet there, but I will reach there,” Chepkoech opined.
