A post-mortem report in a case where three policemen are facing charges of murder before a Nakuru Court has gone missing.
Government Pathologist Titus Ngulungu was to use the report during the case hearing on Monday to establish the cause of the death of Caren Chepkoech.
The police officers from Olengurone in Nakuru County did not want the case to continue after the original copy of the report went missing from the police file.
“We request the prosecution to avail the document (post-mortem report) in court before the case can proceed,” said the suspects as quoted by Nation.
The three officers, Silas Mutuma, Reuben Miano and Wycliffe Wangila are being accused of killing Chepkoech, a bar attendant.
The court heard that the three accused committed the offence on July 8, 2014, in Olengurone town, Nakuru County.
The owner of the bar, Charles Kiprop Ngeno, told the court that two police officers stormed the bar wanting to arrest Chepkoech claiming that she was operating past official hours.
During the arrest, the officers demanded that she gives them a crate of beer and he was later informed that Chepkoech had jumped from the moving police vehicle.
A clinical officer at Olenguruone Sub County Hospital where Chepkoech was taken told the court that a nurse on duty had informed her that the patient was already dead when she was brought to the hospital by some police officers.
The clinical officer told the court that the deceased had no injuries on the body but only a wound on the back of the head that was inflicted by a blunt object.
State prosecutor asked Justice Joel Ngugi to give them more time to look for the original copy of the report.
Justice Ngugi postponed the hearing of the case until the missing document is found.
The three accused are out on an Sh500,000 bond each.
The case will be heard on February 19, 2020.
