Others were Grace Wahu, Grace Wangui and Mama Ngina Kenyatta who was his official wife and the most known to many Kenyans, alongside being the mother of President Uhuru Kenyatta.

In her memoirs "Miss Uhuru 1963: Working For Mzee Jomo Kenyatta", his Social Secretary Elizabeth Mumbi says that he also remained in love with Clarke despite her being rare in Kenya.

This he demonstrated when she came visiting in 1964 and 1971, where Kenyatta would treat her like a queen during meal times, only offering her the best there was to offer.

She says that Kenyatta only served her the juiciest parts of meat as his sign of love to her, and did it with the gentleness he had learnt from his years of living in Britain.

“While at the table, Mzee would cut the juiciest part of the meat and give it to his wife (Edna) as a sign of loveto her. Kenyatta carved the meat with expertise and handed it over to Edna with such gentleness,” reads the memoirs.

Clarke would be booked in at the Hilton Hotel both times.

Kenyatta also visited Wahu at her Dagoretti home once in a while, and would carry with him some cooking fat, groceries, floor and detergent for her, though he did it discreetly.

At the same time, Wahu would also do the same to Kenyatta at his Gatundu South home before retiring back to Dagoretti.
