Thirdway Alliance party leader Dr Ekuru Aukot has been handed a major boost in his quest to change the constitution after the High Court dismissed an application that had barred county assemblies from debating Punguza Mizigo bill.

On Tuesday, High Court Judge John Mativo said that the petition to stop the discussion of the proposals lacks sense.

He noted that the orders issued by Justice James Makau on the case filed by David Kamau Ngari and International Economic Law lacked evidence to stop the debate.

Makau had also barred the former presidential candidate from presenting the proposals to the county assemblies.

Following the new development, Aukot can now present the proposals to all the 47 counties for debating before a referendum can be held in the country.

Aukot has been accusing major political parties of attempting to slow down the bill. He lashed out former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, Ford Kenya party leader Moses Wetangula and National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale for undermining his party.

“Raila, Kalonzo, Aden Duale and Moses Wetangula are on record telling Kenyans to reject Punguza Mizigo proposals as we await the ongeza mzigo proposals. We are now more than ever convinced that they are the sponsors of the frivolous petitions against the bill in court,” said Aukot.
