Lamu Governor Fahim Twaha is serving his first term in office and is expected to seek re-election in the much awaited 2022 general election.
The Jubilee governor won the 2017 election defeating his close rival, incumbent Issa Timamy of Wiper Democratic Party.
As the 2022 succession politics gain momentum, several politicians are said to be eyeing to unseat the county boss.
Here are four politicians who are likely to give Twaha a headache in his reelection bid;
1. Ruweida Obbo
She is the current Lamu Woman Representative serving her first term in office and has been pushing the government to address land injustices among Lamu residents. Obbo is also championing for respect to women rights in the county.
She is among coastal legislators likely to bid for county's top seat in 2022.
2. Issa Timamy
The Wiper party politician lost re-election in the 2017 general election. Timamy also unsuccessfully petitioned Twaha’s win in court. The former governor is said to be strategizing to recapture the seat in the 2022 election.
He has been quoted saying that Lamu residents are not getting value for devolution and has often criticized Twaha for allegedly failing to champion development.
3. Shakila Abdalla
The Wiper Party deputy chairperson lost re-election bid for the Lamu Woman Representative seat in 2017 general election. Despite losing re-election, Abdalla has remained vocal often commenting on issues affecting Lamu residents.
She is said to be eyeing either the Lamu senatorial or gubernatorial seat in 2022 polls.
4. Anwar Loitiptip
The current Lamu Senator is among youthful politicians in the country. He is serving his first term in office and has been vocal on issues facing young people especially drug abuse.
The senator recently threatened to expose top politicians and businessmen who he claimed are behind drug syndicates at the Coast region. He is among politicians likely to bid for the Lamu governor seat in 2022 polls. The Senator is however yet to hint on his 2022 political ambitions.
