Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen has dismissed claims that he helped President Uhuru Kenyatta impeach former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu.
In a tweet on Friday, Murkomen said that though Waititu was impeached, he still holds that the there was no threshold at the Kiambu County Assembly to impeach him.
"At no point did HE President Kenyatta ask me to help him impeach Governor Waititu even though his name was dropped all over the Senate. I was & I am still convinced that the right threshold was not achieved in the county assembly to impeach the governor. Sadly politicks won," Murkomen stated.
Waititu was impeached on Wednesday by the Senate.
A total of 27 Senators voted in support of the impeachment while only 10 senators voted against.
After his impeachment, his deputy James Nyoro will take over with his swearing-in set for Friday in Kiambu.
