A Senate committee has revived the fading Matungu killings issue which has not been hitting the headlines lately as was the case two months ago.

The Senate Committee on National Security, Defence and Foreign Relations on Friday ordered Kakamega security officers to appear before it in relations to the killings.

The committee demanded that the team if top security bosses explain why they skipped an earlier sitting in Kakamega, where they ere to give a report on the killings.

The committee held its sitting in Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya's office on, where it directed that the police bosses appear before it with written submissions within a week.

The officers in question are Regional Commissioner Anne Ng'etich, County Police Commander Bernard Mui and Regional Police Commander Rashid Yakubu.

On top of the Matungu deaths, the team is also to issue a report on the progress of the ongoing probe on the Killingili killings where six guards were killed on the same night.

In May, area Senator Cleophas Malala, former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa and Matungu MP Justus Murunga were arrested and later released over allegations of playing a role in the killings.

They all denied any links to the violence which also left scored of other people nursing injuries.
