President Donald Trump has picked Robert C. O'Brien has his new national security adviser following the departure of the controversial John Bolton.
Robert O'Brien has been previously serving as the U.S hostage negotiator and is said to have very close working relations with the secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, with whom he had worked with previously on a number of security-related cases.
CNN reports that the president announced the decision to pick O'Brien via twitter where he said: "I am pleased to announce that I will name Robert C. O’Brien, currently serving as the very successful Special Presidential Envoy for Hostage Affairs at the State Department, as our new National Security Advisor. I have worked long & hard with Robert. He will do a great job!"
The announcement comes barely a week after President Trump controversially fired John Bolton over a number of disagreements including Bolton's take on Iran. the president is also said to have regarded Bolton as being too much of a showboat.
Robert O'Brien is considered to be a low profile and able to work cordially with other staff in the administration, unlike his predecessor.
The new adviser comes at a time when Trump is trying to sort yet another conflict in the Middle East following the attacks on Saudi's crude oil installations.
