Dagoretti North Member of Parliament Simba Arati has claimed that National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi on Thursday threatened to harm him.
This, he said, happened at the floor of the house, when the parliament convened a special sitting to consider President Uhuru Kenyatta’s proposal of the 8 per cent additional tax on petrol and its products.
Speaking on Radio Jambo’s ‘Mazungumzo Waziwazi’ later at night, the opposition lawmaker alleged that the Speaker was unhappy with his opposition of the proposal and his mode of expression.
Arati who was among the most vocal lawmakers in the house at the time narrated how Muturi warned him that he would have hurt him were they not in the house, noting that he, however, responded with similar vigour.
‘’Spika Muturi alinitishia eti tungekuwa nje ya bunge angenipiga. Lakini nilimwambia kuwa pia mimi ni mwanaume (he threatened that he would have beaten me up were we somewhere else but I told him off),’’ said the youthful parliamentarian.
Arati has since vowed to lead a motion to oust the Speaker and several other members of the house leadership for allegedly aiding in the passing of the bill which was opposed by the majority.
He accused Muturi of dictatorship within the house, saying that the passage of the proposal marks the beginning of the end of his tenure.
‘’Spika ndiye anayefaa awe kama refarii pale bungeni ila ameibadilisha ikawa kama nyumba yake. Yeye na wenzake wajue huu ndio mwisho wao (he has turned the house to look like his personal property and must now prepare for an ouster),’’ he added.
The proposal was controversially passed after the opposing side which included some of the ruling Jubilee party members failed to martial the needed 233 members to overturn Uhuru’s directive.
