Wanyonyi says that Sonko’s directive is good and comes as a relief to Nairobians who cannot afford the toilet fee.

Speaking to journalists at the Parliament Buildings in Nairobi on Tuesday, the MP said that many Nairobians were suffering and that the new directive will ease and help operate freely in the city.

“Governor Sonko has done the right thing by abolishing the public toilet fee that was being imposed on city residents,” the ODM  MP said.

Wanyonyi, however, pleaded with Governor Sonko to employ people who will keep the public toilets clean.

He said that the toilets must be kept to the highest standards of hygiene.

“We know there is going to be a backlash from aggrieved entrepreneurs who have been reaping millions from the public toilets but the governor has to stand his ground and fight for the interests of Nairobi,” he said.

Wanyonyi asked Sonko to ensure Nairobians enjoy the services.

Last week, Sonko abolished public toilets fee stating that Nairobians will access the sanitary facilities free of charge.

Nairobians have welcomed the move and equally called on Sonko to ensure high levels of hygiene at the facilities.

Wanyonyi also lauded the governor for working on curbing insecurity that had soared in some parts of the city.
