The official, Selesio Karanja, is now going to serve half his four year jail term after the court reviewed his sentence in relation to the loss of millions from the government office.

Karanja was arrested and arraigned in court for fraudently inserting the name of a firm, which had earlier on been blocked from supplying different goods to NYS.

The prosecution queried his code of conduct in the saga before he was nabbed by the detectives in the crackdown to recover the loss funds. Karanja had been found guilty of the accusations leveled against him when he appeared in court.

Justice John Onyiego, however, ruled that the sentence he had been given was excessive considering the fact that he was a church elder and he had shown remorse during the process of hearing of the case.

“In my view, the court having appreciated that the appellant was remorseful and elderly, the sentence meted out was excessive in the circumstances I will therefore, set aside the sentence with a fine of Sh3 million or two years in prison in default,” the judge said, as quoted by Daily Nation.

Judge also said that the claims that the charges were defective are baseless and unfounded during the court session.
