Names of four Cabinet Secretaries from Mt Kenya region who have been allegedly plotting to assassinate Deputy President William Ruto have been revealed.
President Uhuru Kenyatta's succession battle is escalating to worst scenarios, even as the Head of State warned politicians against politicking, nothing seems to be forthcoming.
The four ministers were summoned by DCI officer Michael Sang on Monday with claims that Dr Ruto had linked them to a secret plot to eliminate him.
Trade and Industrialization Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya was first to complain over the alleged plot, accusing Ruto of linking him to the plot without proper investigations.
“The complainant makes a substantive complaint in writing against which we can be able to respond. But we have made it clear that at no time have we met anywhere, not just in La Mada, to kill the Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya,” he said as quoted by the Standard.
“We want to confirm we have been having meetings. Indeed, we had a meeting in La Mada and we will continue having meetings because under the Constitution of Kenya, there is freedom of assembly and expression,” Munya added.
Powerful Transport minister James Macharia is also among those dragged to the fiasco. Macharia is a lieutenant of President Uhuru and he rarely engages in politics.
ICT boss Joe Mucheru was also said to have attended the said meeting. Mr Mucheru also works closely with the president. Sicily Kariuki of Health ministry is a surprise inclusion in the list.
Over the weekend, Belgut MP Nelson Koech and Senator Aaron Cheruiyot accused the ministers of plotting against DP William Ruto. The DP is yet to record statement.
Belgut MP Nelson Koech said: “Some Cabinet Secretaries and Principal Secretaries are trying to play dirty tricks which involve undermining and blocking Dr Ruto from touring some parts of the country. We are telling any CSs or PSs who going forward will dare to undermine him, that we will censure them in parliament (sic),” said Koech.
Powerful Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho is said to be the coordinator of anti-Ruto campaigns in Central Kenya, a claim he has often rubbished.
