The family of slain Rongo University student Sharon Otieno is now accusing social media users of peddling lies about her pending burial.
This comes at a time when the burial preparation committee is busy on the pending event and has noted that it will cost around 1.1 million shillings.
The committee Chair Elijah Opiyo has fired out at social media users for exaggerating the budget to 2.5 million shillings, this including a purported Sh200, 000 coffin.
Addressing the Media in Homabay Town on Sunday, Mr. Opiyo rubbished the budget circulating in social media platforms operating within Kisumu, Homabay, Migori and Siaya counties, terming it a scheme to jeorpadize the entire process.
“There are people who intend to jeopardize efforts of our family in making burial arrangements for our daughter. We are condemning them,” he was quoted by the Standard.
He noted that their budget for their coffin is only Sh50, 000.
The fake budget also indicates that the casket will be imported from England, adding that the family will as well spend some money on hiring professional mourners and foreign catering services.
The second year Medical Records student was found murdered at a thicket in Homabay County early last month, with her unborn baby also dying in the process.
She is set to be buried at her grandfather Samuel Odege's homestead in Magare Village, Homabay County.
