Speaking on Monday during the AM Live program on NTV, the University of Nairobi don attacked the legislators who called on Odinga's order to be ignored, accusing them of elevating politics above human life.

"Then you wonder what some of these young politicians are saying that ignore the order. Why are you putting politics over, above human life?" Prof Manyora said. (5;48-5:58)

Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua and South Migarango's Sylvanus Osoro urged those doing the dredging work to ignore the order that had been issued by the ODM supremo, saying that he did not have any mandate to issue orders as government employees.

Odinga's order has elicited mixed reactions with a section of Kenyans saying that he overplayed his hand by making the order.

The ODM leader had contended that the ongoing dredging was interfering with the recovery efforts underway at the Likoni Channel to retrieve the bodies of Mariam Kighenda and her daughter who perished when their car sunk.

Their bodies are yet to be recovered in a multi-agency recovery effort overseen by the Kenya Navy.
