Police in Homa Bay County are probing an incident whereby a 12-year-old girl is alleged to have been defiled before being murdered.
The body of the girl was found thrown in a bush in Ndhiwa Sub-County.
The victim identified as Tiffany Ochieng is feared to have been defiled before being murdered in Lwanda B, Kanyamwa East location.
Homa Bay County Police Commander Ms Esther Seroney told Nation that an area resident found the lifeless body lying in a bush before reporting the matter to police.
Preliminary examinations on the deceased's body at Ndhiwa Sub-County hospital revealed that the minor was defiled before being murdered.
Ms Seroney confirmed that officers from DCI had already taken over the matter, calling upon the public to help provide leads for the arrest of the suspects.
"We call the public to provide police with any information that can help track and arrest the suspects. DCI detectives are doing their best to ensure justice is served for the girl's family," the police boss told Nation.
She also urged parents to keep a close watch over their children, especially during school holidays.
The County Police Commander said Ndhiwa Sub-County is among the leading in defilement cases and teenage pregnancies in Homabay County.
According to Ndhiwa Sub-County Police Commander Evance Ombui, at least 2,600 teenage pregnancy cases were recorded in the County this year alone.
