Head coach Francis Kimanzi confirmed that Matasi will not be part of the Kenyan team that will be playing Mozambique in a friendly match set for October 13.

In his place, Kimanzi has called up; Ian Otieno, Timothy Odhiambo, and Farouk Shikalo.

Speaking to goal.com, Kimanzi said Matasi's is not on form currently, as he has not been involved in competitive matches.

"We have a problem in the goalkeeping department and my reason to drop [Matasi] is to have a look at the other keepers we have in our disposal.

"I want to see what the other keepers can offer in the absence of Matasi and to be honest since Afcon Matasi has not been involved regularly with his team as the Ethiopian league is in a break," he said as quoted by Goal.

"Against Uganda in the friendly, Matasi had a very bad game, he was not in good form and he almost cost us defeat. He has only been training with AFC Leopards to keep fit and you cannot compare his performance with Ian Otieno at the moment," he added.

As to why prolific forward Ayub Timbe will not be part of the team, Kimanzi said his club requested that he be allowed to remain, and help it fight relegation.

Here is the 23-man squad selected by Kimanzi ahead of the friendly match:
