An autopsy conducted on the body of a baby who died at a hospital in Nairobi (name withheld) has revealed that he was injected with adrenaline.
The facility has since been put on the spot following the death of the baby and investigations are already underway to establish the persons behind the cause of the demise of the baby.
The baby, whose name has been identified as Ethan Mwaniki died at a Kasarani facility moments after he was injected with the drug.
The deceased had been admitted at the facility on December 21, 2019, after the parents noticed that he had shown some signs of pneumonia.
The parents said that the child had shown signs of vomiting and diarrhoea before he was taken to the facility to undergo treatment.
The report, which was released by pathologist Moses Njue, showed that the baby suffered both external and internal injuries before succumbing to death.
Justine Mwaniki, who spoke on behalf of the family of the deceased, said that the doctors gave the baby antibiotics’ treatment before the adrenaline injection. Mwaniki said that the child could have died from overdose or negligence.
“We suspect the boy died from an overdose of the adrenaline drug... or negligence on the part of the health workers who handled him,” said Mwaniki.
"We need justice for our baby by having the government act upon the responsible medics, through the intervention of the DCI, the DPP and the doctors and dentists board so we are contented," he added.
The management has embarked on a probe into the incident before the information is shared in the public domain.
