Police in Konoin, Bomet County, are investigating an incident where a man allegedly hacked his two sons to deaths after disagreeing with their mother over the purchase and use of maize flour.
The man allegedly committed the crime after his wife defied his orders not to cook ugali with the flour he had bought unless she contributed.
He reportedly became mad upon returning home to find that the wife had cooked ugali and fed her two sons and threatened to kill the wife and the boys on Friday night.
According to the Saturday Standard, the suspect followed the wife to a neighbour's house where he hacked the children as the wife escaped through the window.
Konoin Sub-County Police Boss Alex Shikondi said that a manhunt has been launched for the suspect as villagers failed to capture him after he disappeared into the darkness.
“We have information that he has escaped to relatives in neighbouring Bureti. He will soon be arrested and charged with murder,” he said.
Angry villagers threatened to lynch the suspect, a casual labourer at a nearby tea factory, in the instance that he is spotted in the village.
“He will suffer the same fate he subjected the innocent children if he will be spotted in this village,” said Mr Nicholas Cheruiyot, a villager.
The children were announced dead upon arrival at the Cheptalal Health Center and their bodies have since been moved to the Kapkatet Hospital Mortuary.
