African Union High Representative for Infrastructural Development Raila Odinga on Sunday took a break from his busy schedule to spend time with family at his Karen home.
In a photo posted on his Twitter account, Mr Odinga paused with his wife Ida Odinga and three grandchildren. Three of his children were absent though.
"After long hours and days in the air and on Continental assignments, it was time to have an easy Sunday with those who matter most to me which is family," he wrote.
Before his Saturday trip to Kirinyaga for Governor Ann Waiguru's wedding, Raila held meetings at his Capitol Hill with Governors Alex Tolgos, Granton Samboja and Dhadho Godhana.
His decision to take a break on Sunday came at the time when a local daily reported that Mrs Odinga and Oburu Oginga are among family members in his new strategic team
“The strategy is simply to help Raila navigate his politics. You can see that he has abandoned confrontational politics and taken the path of consultation,” a source familiar with the team said.
Key players in this close knit team include foe-turned-friend and Jubilee Secretary-General Raphael Tuju, ODM deputy party leaders Wycliffe Oparanya and Hassan Joho, Suna East MP Junet Mohammed, University don Adams Oloo, Busia Senator Amos Wako, lawyer Paul Mwangi and Bishop Zacheus Okoth.
Others said to have Mr Odinga’s ear are his long serving aide Andrew Mondoh, Governors James Ongwae (Kisii), Anyang Nyong’o (Kisumu), and ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna.
Mrs Odinga is also linked to the Handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila, which has seen the country enjoy relative stability in the last 18 months.
For the last one month, Raila has been attending high profile infrastructural development meetings across the continent by the virtue of his roles.
