The leader of majority in the United States of America House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi has announced that President Donald Trump will be subjected to a formal impeachment inquiry.
Speaking to the nation on Tuesday evening, Ms Pelosi said that the US head of state had betrayed his oath of office, setting the ground for the inquiry.
“The actions taken to date by the president have seriously violated the constitution,” Pelosi said in a formal speech. “The president must be held accountable. No one is above the law, " she added.

Experts contend that while the impeachment motion might pass in the Democrat controlled House of Representatives it is likely to be shot down in the Senate.
President Trump fired back on Twitter at Pelosi's announcement, disparaging it as witch hunt garbage.
“Such an important day at the United Nations, so much work and so much success, and the Democrats purposely had to ruin and demean it with more breaking news Witch Hunt garbage. So bad for our Country!" The president's angry tweet read.
The announcement came after Pelosi consulted allies.
A complaint was made by an unidentified member of the intelligence community that the president interacted inappropriately with President Volodymyr Zelenskiy during a phone conversation.
