Unemployment remains a big challenge among the youth in the country. Students leave universities with high hopes of landing a job within the first few months of graduating.
It is high time the youth stopped focusing only on white collar jobs as most organisations employ experienced job seekers, locking out fresh graduates in the job market.
Fortunately for the ladies, there are a number of unexploited job opportunities in Kiambu County. These fields are dominated by men, with few ladies taking up the opportunities.

If you take a walk in Kiambu, especially in major towns such as Thika, Kiambu town and Ruiru, you will rarely spot a lady working in some of these fields.
Here are some of the opportunities ladies should explore to earn a living.
1. Mechanic
There are very few female mechanics in Kiambu, as a majority of ladies consider this job to be hard. However, those working in the field have no regrets as they earn a decent living from the job. Some have even revealed that a section of motorists prefer ladies fixing their cars, something that helps them maintain a faithful customer base.
2. Kinyozi
Most barbershops in Kiambu are run by men. However, there are some which are managed by ladies. A good example is one barbershop based in Ruiru town which is always packed with customers. Men who go to get a haircut at the kinyozi say they are usually impressed by the good service they receive from the ladies.
3. Car wash
In some cases, customers believe ladies will do a more thorough job compared to their male counterparts, thus car wash establishments run by ladies end up having more customers. Also, being in a male-dominated field is a plus for ladies as people like unique things.
4. Bodaboda rider
A few months back, Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria promised to stand with female riders after he realised they were willing to venture into the business.
"Through CDF, we shall train 1,000 ladies including single mothers so that they can get licences to ride bodabodas. Through Uwezo Fund we shall then assist them to own bodabodas through SACCOs and Self Help Groups," said Kuria.
This is a good reason for ladies in the county to take up the opportunity and venture into the business which is termed as the most significant segment of the country's transport sector.
