Speaking during the head teachers meeting in Makueni Boys on Thursday, the county's First Lady Nazi Kibwana said the program is meant to eradicate communicable diseases alongside implementation of ND strategies.

"The program targets arid areas where pupils are likely to suffer from non-communicable diseases because of poverty and unbalanced diets," Nazi said.

Nazi is the association's chairperson.

According to Makueni County Education and ICT chief officer Ms. Damaris Makau, they have held a stakeholders meeting with school heads in order to pick the most affected schools.

"We have been able to choose a few schools, our meeting with the principals was to establish which schools to choose," Makau said.

Makau said they chose schools located in the driest parts of Makueni.

They include Mweleli primary with an ECD centre in Kalawa, Mbooni Sub-county and Ulilinzi primary school located in Masongaleni in Kibwezi East Sub-county.

The pilot project will run for three months.

Makau said they will then do an evaluation of how the pilot program has helped pupils.
