The woman, Erika Iminza had been charged for attacking her husband and causing him injuries in his private parts.

According to the prosecution, Iminza committed the crime on May 22, 2018, in Shauri Yako estate on the outskirts of Eldoret town following a domestic quarrel.

The suspect is said to have used a kitchen knife in cutting the husband’s manhood.

She had pleaded not guilty to the charges but the prosecution was able to prove the case against her.

While delivering the ruling on Monday, Eldoret Chief Magistrate Charles Obulutsa said the sentence should serve as a lesson to any other person with the intention of causing bodily harm to their spouse.

“She did not show any legal justification for doing that. The court gave the complainant time to seek reconciliation with his wife but he said he was not willing as he was afraid she may finish what she started. The complainant no doubt suffered great pain,” noted Obulutsa in his ruling.

“There has been a high incident of marital violence sometimes leading to serious injuries caused to spouses. This has to be stopped,” he added.

The suspect has 14 days to file an appeal against the ruling.
