Mumias East Member of Parliament Benjamin Washiali has weighed in on the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) meeting, that was held at the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega County on Saturday.
Speaking on Sunday, the National Assembly Chief Whip rubbished the meeting as a political forum, that had nothing to do with BBI.
He further noted that the only people mandated to sensitise the public on the initiative are the members of the BBI task-force, whose names have been gazetted.
"That was not a BBI because; the committee that was charged, that was gazetted by the president and charged to collect views from the members of the public was not the one conducting the meeting," the Jubilee legislator said.
Washiali's words come amid growing divisions among politicians supporting the BBI, and those skeptical about the initiative, which proponents say will usher in unity and a new governance dispensation.
On Saturday, politicians supporting the BBI congregated in Kakamega for what conveners of the much-hyped meeting described as a BBI sensitisation meeting.
Allies of Deputy President William Ruto did not show up for the meeting, saying it about 2022 presidential politics and not the BBI.
