The two aged 38 and 42 years were crossing from Kamaimba area in Masinga to Kasioni village in Mwea when the tragedy struck.

According to Riakanau location Chief Kimeu Musyimi, the duo identified as Benedict Muoki and Elijah Mutua were on a boat which capsized due to strong winds.

"There was a tragedy on Friday night, two men drowned in Masinga dam after their boat capsized, they were with a motorbike where the boat capsized because of strong winds," said Musyimi on phone.

He disclosed that the search and retrieval of the bodies were a success on Saturday due to combined efforts of residents and divers.

The chief said the bodies were taken to Kalila mission hospital in Mwea for preservation.

He said fishermen were also able to recover the motorbike that had sunk.

Musyimi urged residents to avoid crossing the dam in the evening because of strong waves.

"After interrogations, I found out that the two had been drinking before heading home. I would advise residents to avoid crossing the dam in the evening," said Musyimi.
