Residents of Sameta in Kisii County were left in a rude shock after a chang'aa dealer confessed that she has been burying the illicit brew at her husband's grave.
Area assistant chief Patrick Nyamwange said he received a tip-off from members of the public about Janet Bosibori's illegal dealings.
"I together with Nyumba Kumi officials stormed Bosibori's home early on Friday morning and ordered her to show us where she has been keeping her illicit brew famously known as 'Kangara'. I was shocked when she took us to her husband's grave where we found over 200 litres of Kangara," he said.
Nyamwange said Bosibori pleaded to be forgiven in vain.
"Selling, distribution and making of chang'aa is outlawed. Bosibori was arrested and she will be arraigned in court on as soon as courts resume," he noted.
The chief said Bosibori must be sent to jail to serve as an example to the rest who are engaging in dubious businesses.
He warned that he is not going to relent on the war against illicit liquor in the area.
Nyamwange urged the public to continue giving information about those engaging in illegal businesses.
