A man and his wife committed suicide by hanging themselves in Musingini village, Yatta Sub-County, Machakos County.
The body of the husband aged 45 years was found dangling from a tree near Kawituo river while that of the wife was found dangling from the roof of their house.
The incident was confirmed by Yatta Sub-County police commander Joseph Karanja who said that it's possible the two had a disagreement before taking their lives.
"I was notified that a body of a man had been discovered dangling from a tree near River Kawituo, also back at his house his wife was found hanging while the door was closed from outside," said Karanja.
The police said that there was evidence of a commotion in the house because utensils were scattered all over and the wife had bruises on the head.
Karanja observed that the man had earlier attempted to kill himself by drinking battery acid.
"The man had tried ingesting acid from a battery to kill himself but failed so he left the house and went to hang himself almost 500 meters from his house," he said.
He said that no suicide notes were left behind, adding that police have begun investigations into the incident.
The bodies of the two were moved to the Yatta Funeral Home.
