A Chaang'aa raid on Saturday evening at Katine area in Matungulu sub-county of Machakos County went sour after two assistant chiefs and two headmen were reportedly attacked.
Katine assistant chief Timothy Musau, his Kyaume counterpart Francis Mulinge and two others were attacked by one Nzuki Ndonye after they arrived at his home to arrest him.
Mulinge who sustained injuries told the press on Sunday that the suspect who brews outlawed Chang'aa called youths who attacked the chiefs.
"In Katine sub-location, we managed to raid one home where Chang'aa is sold. We called police officers to conduct the arrest when the guy came with a panga, knives, stones and other weapons. He also called a group of youths who attacked us," said Mulinge.
He said that the suspect asked the youth to take the Chang'aa that was supposed to be used as an exhibit where they all escaped.
"When the police arrived they found no one in sight," he said.
The chief disclosed that the man has a tendency of getting violent every time he faces arrest.
The incident was recorded under OB 26/4/1/2020.
Police have since launched a manhunt for the suspect.
