Renowned actor Leonardo DiCaprio has donated $5 million to help combat the fires in the Amazon Forest through his Earth Alliance organisation.
The amount will be given to local groups in Brazil.
"The destruction of the Amazon rainforest is rapidly releasing carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, destroying an ecosystem that absorbs millions of tonnes of carbon emissions every year and is one of the planet's best defences against the climate crisis, " Earth Alliance said in a statement on its website.
Earth Alliance's contribution comes in the wake of growing international concern over fires in the Amazon.
Brazil's president Jair Bolsonaro has come under blistering criticism for not doing enough to address.
Among those who had expressed their concerns is the renowned Hollywood actor.
"Deeply concerned about the ongoing crisis in the Amazon, which highlights the delicate balance of climate, biodiversity, and the wellbeing of indigenous peoples, " he said in an Instagram post on Saturday.
Earth Alliance, which Mr DiCaprio co-chairs, is an organization whose forte is environmental philanthropy.
French President also announced $22 miilion to help deal with the Amazon fire which he described as an international crisis.
The far-right Bolsonaro has strongly rejected criticism of his cavalier attitude towards environmental issues.
