He instead praised the Kariako derby in Tanzania.

The Mashemeji derby is the oldest in Kenya which pits Gor Mahia and AFC leopards.

The Rwandan striker who played for Gor Mahia before joining Simba SC did not hold back in his assessment of the two derbies.

"When playing in the Mashemeji derby, there is no excitement at all because even the fans do not fill the stadium," Kagere said as quoted by Goal.

Although the Mashemeji derby is the most-watched match in Kenya, Kagere feels the stadium atmosphere in Kenya is nothing compared to that of the Kariako derby.

"It feels like any other game, in contrast to that, the Kariakoo derby is massive and the best I have ever played in. Everyone in the country talks about it and the fans fill the stadium to cheer their favourite team.

When you come on the pitch to play, it gives you motivation and as a player, you do absolutely everything to win. Tanzania's derby is better than Kenya's,” he noted.

The 33-year-old striker made a good start to life at his new club, Simba SC, making headlines with his performances and has scored 8 goals in 10 appearances this season.
