A 92-year-old woman has been forced to spend a night in cold after her house was demolished by unknown people at Ukwala area in Eldoret town.
The woman, Jane Wanjiku, claims to have lived in the house since 1975 and that her son was paying a rent of Sh1,500 monthly.
Speaking in Eldoret town on Sunday, Wanjiku accused Elite Ventures, a property management company, for the demolitions contrary to a court order issued on January 18, 2018, stopping her evictions.
"It this the way to thank me for all those years I have lived here. I asked them to allow me to move out when I find a good place to relocate but they never listened to me despite being a court order stopping my evictions," she told the press.
The property management company, however, denied arbitrary evicting the women saying it had issued a notice to vacate for all the tenants as per the existing laws.
Kipkoech Maritim, an agent to the company said the notice was for the 20 tenants living at the plot to move out by December 31, 2017.
"When the demolitions were being done, there was no court order. All the tenants including the 92-year-old woman were given sufficient time to relocate because we want to build a storey building at that plot," Maritim said.
