County’s director of Alcoholic Drinks Control Board Silas Boit said the government would crack the whip on all bar owners and other alcohol-selling joints that will be found not to be strictly following guidelines issued to them while they were applying for the liquor licences.

Speaking at Ziwa ward, Soy Sub County on Thursday during a public baraza, Boit said they would intensify surveillance and spot checks to ascertain numerous complaints from members of the public that some alcohol-selling businesses within the Ziwa township were operating before and past the required time.

“We came here today to listen to your complaints including the letter you have forwarded to us and copied to other relevant government bodies citing numerous issues which include operating past the stipulated time,” he said.

Soy Sub-County Administrator Kipchumba Barno who was also present during the event said regular inspection will be carried out to ensure that standards are maintained.

He asked the bar owners to devise safe ways to dispose of alcohol bottles citing that it was an environmental hazard if disposed of carelessly.

The Sub County administrator further asked members of the public to forward complaints of all the licensed bars operating against the laid down guidelines.

“Whatever we pass here today we will enforce to the letter. I want to assure you that everybody’s right will be respected,” assured Barno.
