Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has faulted Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko for releasing his counter Ferdinard Waititu’s wife Susan Mwangi. Owino said that Sonko is preaching water and drinks wine after the release. The sentiments come after a video surfaced in which Waititu is heard begging Sonko to release his wife. Babu argues that the move has watered down Sonko's effort to fight graft since he took over Former Governor Evans Kidero, who was arrested over mismanagement of county resources during his tenure in office.
“Governor Mike Sonko must be reminded in no uncertain terms that the law must never be adjusted to suit one's class, title, religion, tribe or any other form of discrimination. This video clip rubbishes all Sonko’s purported efforts on matter war against corruption!”
The governor is heard agreeing to release the wife but not others arrested alongside her.
“Niwachilie watu wote Sonko bana, wewe unakumbuka vile tumesumbuka Nairobi na wewe na bado tunaenda mbali, Waititu is heard saying.
Sonko responds : Hao wengine pigia mdosi mimi wacha niwachilie mama. (For the others, call the boss, let me release the wife).
Susan was released but later re-arrested and presented in court. She later on cash bail of Kshs. 80,000 pending the hearing of her case on 6th September 2018.
