On Tuesday evening Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu accompanied by his wife, Susan Ndung'u, presided over a charity Christmas tree lighting event at the Kiambu County headquarters.

The purpose of the event according to Waititu's official Facebook page, was to encourage the spirit of sharing with the less fortunate among Kiambu residents during this festive season.

"We sampled 12 deserving children homes from every sub-county where we shall be able to give them some Christmas donations and embrace the spirit of Christmas," said Mrs Waititu.

On his part, Waititu said that he channelled his donation and those of corporates and individual wellwishers towards buying foodstuffs and blankets for needy children in the 12 selected children homes in Kiambu.

"Rather than spend an exorbitant amount of money to buy a Christmas tree, I channelled my donations and those of corporate and individual wellwishers towards buying foodstuffs and blankets for needy children in 12 children's homes in Kiambu," said Waititu.

However, Kenyans on Twitter aware or unaware of the purpose of the event, decided to troll Waititu for 'launching a Christmas tree' instead of launching things that will benefit the common mwananchi like hospitals just as his counterparts in other counties.

This is how the conversation continues to unfold on Twitter.
