Nakuru Woman Representative Liza Chelule has called on the county government of Nakuru to construct a major rehabilitation centre to address the plight of street children.
Speaking at a function in Nakuru, Chelule said as the town awaits a city status there is a need to solve the challenge of street children.
According to the legislator, the county should come up with mechanisms of ensuring all street children are taken to a rehabilitation centre where they can be treated and empowered.
She says this will help avert problems in Nakuru town.
“If we want Nakuru to be a city, then we need to look on how we can have a major rehabilitation centre to help address the challenge of street children. We don’t want to become victims of curses for not taking care of our children,” said Chelule.
The MP made the remarks a few days after more than 41 street children were rounded up in Nakuru and then transported to Baringo.
In Baringo, the children were then dumped into Chemususu forest.
