Police in Nyamira have arrested two people from Makairo area who allegedly sold illicit brew that claimed the lives of a couple a few days ago.
According to Nyamira County Commissioner Amos Mariba, the duo were arrested after the police carried search. They will be arraigned soon after investigators conclude their investigations.
Addressing journalists on Tuesday evening at Nyamira Police Station, Mariba said police will ensure all joints selling alcohol in the county are well stocked with certified liquor.
“Those arrested are Evans Ogato who owns the bar as well as Irene Atieno, a bartender who served the decease couple," Mariba said.
The arrest comes exactly two days after the couple died. Two other people are admitted in a local facility after consuming the same brew.
The county boss urged locals to ensure that they help the police in ensuring illegal drinking joints are shut to avoid such early unplanned deaths.
