Wiper party leader Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka has eulogised the late Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso as a strong woman.
In a tweet, Kalonzo said he learned about the death with shock.
He said the late Laboso played a vital role in the transformation of leadership, adding that she was among the women who stood strong against men in leadership.
"It is with deep sorrow and sadness that I have learned of the passing on of Bomet Governor Dr. Joyce Laboso. She was a trailblazer of women's empowerment in Kenya. My heartfelt condolences to her family, friends and the people of Bomet. May she Rest in Eternal Peace!" he tweeted.
Laboso died at Nairobi Hospital at the age of 58 after along battle with cancer.
Her body has since been transferred to the Lee funeral home pending burial arrangements.
A number of leaders including President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga have sent their messages of condolence to the family.
