The government has reiterated its commitment towards ensuring quality education in technical and vocation training institutes across the country.

Speaking on Thursday during the 14th graduation ceremony at the Rift Valley Institute of Science and Technology (RVIST), Principal Secretary Ministry of Education, State Department of Vocational and Technical Training Dr Kevit Desai said that is the only way to ensure gainful and self-employment among the youth.

He said the new competence based training will go a long way in addressing the same and ensure that those who graduate from the vocational and technical training institutions get gainful employment.

“Competence based education training is the focus now nationally as it has a direct relation towards promoting link between job opportunities, the youths, and the resources in the country,” said the PS.

While lauding the Big 4 agenda of the Jubilee administration, the PS was categorical that technical vocational institutions have a huge role to play towards achieving the same as well as vision 2030.

“Technical and vocational training is the way to go towards realising the Big 4 agenda as well as the vision 2030,” he said.

During the ceremony, 1,300 students graduated and received awards in various fields.

The Rift Valley Institute of Science and Technology (RVIST) was established in 1979, with a mandate to conduct training in technical and vocational education at tertiary level.
