Director of Criminal Investigation [DCI] officers nabbed two young men suspected to have been terrorizing Mombasa residents in Likoni on Tuesday.
Making the communication on Wednesday via Twitter, the DC said that the two Abdallah Rashid and Brian Ochieng, both 18 years old were nabbed in a raid when detectives received information that a group of six armed youths had assembled in an incomplete building in preparation to wreak havoc to members of the public.
"Two wanted criminals believed to have been terrorizing residents in Likoni, Mombasa County were earlier yesterday arrested by DCI Detectives following a tip-off from members of public. The two; Abdallah Rashid and Brian Ochieng both 18yrs, were nabbed in a raid when Detectives," DCI tweeted.
Upon search in the said building during the raid, the detectives recovered 2 pangas, 2 slashers, one sword and one metal bar.
The DCI further said that the two would be arraigned in court as the police pursued the other gang members who had escaped.
This comes after two criminals were killed last week in the coastal county. One was killed by a mob in Likoni sub-county while the other was shot dead by police officers at Bamburi, Kisauni sub-county.
Despite the rising criminal cases, the police have promised to continue using all legal means to end it.
“This is the festive season and if we don’t do that, crime goes up. Mombasa has many visitors we don’t want our people to suffer,” sub-county police commander Julius Kiragu said as reported by the Star.
