Davis Mwambili better known as Inspekta Mwala has been sentenced to one year behind bars or a Sh30,000 fine for causing the death of a pedestrian in Kaloleni, Kilifi county on August 26, in Mariakani the court has ruled.

The pedestrian succumbed to head injuries.

As part of the mitigation,  Mwambili admitted guilt and said he was sorry for causing the death.

He told the magistrate who sentenced him that the death was caused accidentally, saying that it was the first time he had caused an accident.

"I am very sorry. I also ask for forgiveness from the family of the deceased. I had not planned to cause the accident. I had no intention to kill, save that an accident occurred and I cannot have left where I was to go and cause the accident," he said.

Mwambili is a household name, known for his role in the Inspekta Mwala programme that is aired on Citizen TV. He also co-hosts a program on a local radio station.

A few weeks ago, he trended on social media over trying to forcefully kiss a co-host.
