While appearing before a parliamentary committee on Tuesday, Transport Cabinet Secretary James Macharia said that the government is looking into other alternatives to turn around the operations at the facility for maximum profitability and better service delivery.

He said that there is the need to revamp the aviation sector so that the nation can continue to compete favourably at the international levels.

Macharia said that the change in tune came after an uproar from the public over what is believed to be the sale of the public project.

“Following concerns raised by the public, we are now exploring other opinions of delivering the objectives of the government to consolidate our aviation assets, he said, as quoted by Daily Nation.

He also said that the ministry will submit the proposal to the cabinet for approval in the event that another alternative is reached with immediate effect.

He also said that they are working on the best legal framework they can apply to transform the facility.

The Transport committee led by its chairman David Pkosing (Pokot South) urged the ministry to nationalize the facility before considering other possible options.
