Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Sunday took legendary boxer Conjestina Achieng on a shopping spree at Naivas supermarket in Ukunda, Mombasa.
The first-term county boss took to social media and dismissed claims that he had neglected the boxer after airlifting her from her rural home in Kisumu before she took her to rehab
He asked the boxer to take anything she wanted from the supermarket as they strolled alongside with his aides.
Conjestina has been undergoing medication at the Diani Golden Rehabilitation Centre.
Sonko has since promised to ensure that Conjestina, who made the country proud in various competitions, secures a job at the Nairobi Sports Management Board once she has fully recovered.
“Earlier today, I visited veteran female boxer Congestina Achieng who is undergoing rehabilitation at Diani Golden Rehabilitation Center. Contrary to malicious reports Congestina is doing well and I'm proud of our initiative to support the former female boxing champion,” said the governor.
The move comes days after renowned football commentator Boniface Ambani alleged that the governor has not been taking care of the former boxer. Sonko dismissed the claims moments after Ambani made the claims.
