Dr Alfred Mutua has joined Kenyans in mourning Robert Collymore popularly known as Bob Collymore.
Mutua who posted on his Twitter account described Collymore as brilliant and friendly.
"Shocked and sad to learn of the departure of Bob Collymore from this world. It really breaks my heart. He was a wonderful friend, a brilliant strategist and a fighter. I really thought he would pull through," reads the governor's statement.
Collymore died at the age of 61 on Monday 1 July at his home in Nairobi after a long battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML).
He left behind one wife and four children.
President Kenyatta, his deputy William Ruto also mourned him.
ODM Party leader Rails Odinga also mourned Collymore saying that his death is not only a big blow to Safaricom but also the entire nation. Adding that Bob was a distinguished corporate leader who gave his best during his lifetime.
Safaricom Chairman Nicholas Nganga broke the news of passing away of the Safaricom boss in a statement posted on the company social media accounts.
"It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing away of Robert (Bob) William Collymore, CEO of Safaricom PLC which occurred at his Nairobi home in the morning of 1st July 2019," the statement read.
