A fourth-year law student at Moi University John Mueke has declared interest in the Kitui Central parliamentary seat come 2022.
Mueke is currently the Law Students Society of Kenya Moi University Annex chapter president.
Speaking to Hivisasa on Thursday, the vocal student leader said he aims to improve the livelihoods of people of Kitui Central and create job opportunities for unemployed youths.
He noted that, if elected, he will partner with NGOs and international organizations to bring impactful development in the Consistency.
"Once elected I will set up the first-ever glass manufacturing company in Kitui since the county is endowed with sand and largest supply of coal ever which will facilitate this process," Mueke said.
This, according to him, will be a sustainable initiative that will create employment for many Kenyan youths.
Through his leadership he also wants water problems in Ukambani to be a thing of the past.
"I will buy five water drillers in my constituency that will ensure sustainable water supply in every homestead. We don't want our mothers to walk long distances looking for this essential commodity," noted Mueke.
He further said that with constant water supply, residents will engage in meaningful agri-business.
Mueke also revealed that he would set up a textile company in the area since Ukambani is rich in sand, limestone and other minerals.
He, however, did not reveal the party he will use as a political vehicle in 2022.
