Deputy President William Ruto has dismissed reports that he is not reading from the same script with President Uhuru Kenyatta on matters Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report.
This is after the Saturday Standard reported that the DP has scoffed at the BBI report and vowed to shoot it down for having 'hidden proposals' in it.
In a fiery tweet, Ruto termed the story as 'garbage' and noted he was open for a robust debate on the report aimed at uniting the country for prosperity.
"Usual Standard gutter FAKE news. Where did WsR utter such nonsense? Kenyans should look forward to a robust, truthful national conversation to chart a unified way forward. Meanwhile ignore Standard's garbage," he posted.
The newspaper claimed the DP said the document was being used as a political tool in readiness for the 2022 general election.
“Kenyans are not fools to just accept conmanship hidden in BBI which they are using as a political tool for 2022.…You cannot hide violence behind the BBI or handshake. Violence is violence," DP Ruto quoted by the paper.
Ruto allegedly made the remarks at the Bomas of Kenya, Nairobi County, during a thanksgiving ceremony for Jubilee candidate in the Kibra by-election McDonald Mariga.
The much-awaited report will be handed over to the President and ODM leader Raila Odinga on Tuesday by Garrisa Senator Yusuf Haji, who is the chairperson of BBI National Unity Advisory Taskforce.
The President urged political leaders to be cautious when discussing the report saying it should not be used to divide Kenyans.
